Objective

Welcome to the Enlisted Leadership Foundation’s Chief Petty Officer Legacy Academy, taking place in San Diego, California. What started years ago onboard the USS CONSTITUTION in Boston has grown to the USS MISSOURI in Hawaii, USS TURNER JOY in Pacific North West, Naval Training Center Great Lakes, and now onboard USS MIDWAY MUSEUM in San Diego. Sixty Chief Selectees spend six days and five nights with a dozen Senior and Chief Petty Officers immersed in teamwork and leadership training to prepare for the duties of a Chief Petty Officer.
During the week the selected Sailors will live aboard the USS Midway Museum and spend the days traveling throughout San Diego visiting monuments, commands, and installations, to learn about the rich Navy heritage that America’s Finest City has to offer. When not visiting, they are being taught teamwork and leadership concepts from different active and retired Chief, Senior Chief, and Master Chief Petty Officers.

CPO Leagacy Academy

Promotion in the Navy from E6 to E7 is a unique and powerful experience. Not simply adding a “stripe” and a pay-raise, the Navy Chief carries the weight of responsibility not seen by sister services. The Chief Petty Officer Legacy Academy is designed to enhance the existing command initiation process that each Navy Chief Selectee participates in. This 3 day in person  program immerses each Chief Selectee with teamwork and leadership training from active and retired senior enlisted leaders and other successful leaders designed to deepen the Selectees preparation to become a Navy Chief.  One class is offered for 2021.  See "Applications & Program Dates" for specifics.

Application Dates

Class 021: Registration for studetns will be first come, first serve until all 75 seats are full. 

** Payment must be made at time of registration to guaratee a spot.  Reservation without payment is not a spot guarantee.  If spot is reserved and later cancelled, refund will be made ONLY if the spot is later sold to another command/selectee.


Registration for CPO/SCPO/MCPO who want to be mentors are on going.

Class 021: 26 - 28 October 2021 - not overnight.


Costs:

$225.00 per student.


* COVID still has a vote.  The program may change from overnight to shortened days or virtual.

FAQ's

  • Is there a limit to how many can attend from one command?

    There is no limit. All seats are first come first serve.

  • What do I need to bring?

    All students will be provided a seabag list upon selection.

  • What is the uniform for graduation?

    Uniform of the day. No particular uniform requirement.

  • How do I become a program volunteer?

    Please complete the “Contact Us” form and make your request.

  • What is the cost and what does the cost cover?

    The cost is $225.00 per person which covers course materials:

    - CPO Leadership Guide by Paul Kingsbury

    - Enlisted Leadership Foundation branded journal

    - 2021 CPO Pride Day challenge coin

    - 1 year Enlisted Leadership Foundation membership

  • I am taking a college class. Can I leave for one night to attend class?

    Participation from start to finish is necessary. Any classes, interviews, day care, etc, should be deconflicted before class begins. If a student leaves for a non-emergent situation they will not be allowed to complete the course and the money will not be refunded.

  • Can we reserve a spot for CPO Legacy Academy?

    For 2021 we you can!  See the sign up for details.

  • What if I sign up but then cannot attend?

    If the reason for not attending is emergency or operational schedule change your money will be refunded.

  • Who can attend the graduation ceremony?

    Anyone can attend the graduation ceremony. We encourage command leadership, fellow CPO’s and CPO Selectees, and family members of the students.

  • Where is graduation?

    For 2021, graduation will be at the Lakeside VFW.

  • How is the program paid for?

    It’s up to the participant to cover the costs. How that is accomplished is determined by the participant.

  • Can any CPO Selectee attend or only those located in San Diego?

    ANY CPO Selectee from anywhere in the world can attend.
